SALISBURY RESIDENCE

This house was inspired by the site itself – the wooded landscape and striking glacial rocks echoed in natural wood and fieldstone exterior. The design, balancing both traditional and modern influences with regional styles, not only ensures that the house complements the immediate surroundings but also that the house reflects its Northeast locale.

The exterior stone walls pass through the house and when coupled with large windows and openings connect the interior and exterior spaces together seamlessly. In addition to creating this connection between the indoors and out, the windows are placed to maximize natural ventilation in the warmer months while the interior stone on the walls and floor absorbs and radiates heat in winter.

This house does more than simply reflect its surroundings. Because the natural elements of the site itself were so central to the design and materials chosen, this house has become a fitting addition to an already beautiful local landscape.
